About Engineered Herringbone & Parquet Flooring

The Herringbone pattern was first used by Romans who used them for building roads. The ancient Romans realised that placing the bricks in a zigzag pattern, in the direction of the traffic, made the roads much more stable.

Although the herringbone pattern has been used in interiors from the Roman era, it was used in wooden floors only in the 16th century. The earliest example of herringbone wood could be found in the Francois 1 Gallery that was installed way back in 1539.

Since the 17th century, herringbone parquet floors have been in the limelight. They have been used in palaces, castles and the abodes of the wealthy and the nobility across Western Europe. Herringbone floors continued to be a popular choice all the way through the 18th century and up until the middle of the 19th century.

Why Choose Herringbone Engineered Wood Flooring?

Herringbone floors have a luxurious aesthetic and a distinct character that can transform any space - contemporary or traditional.

When you are looking for a herringbone hardwood floor that will look good and last for years without any trouble, look no further than an engineered herringbone floor.

There’s no doubt that the herringbone pattern looks stunning. But the small block design has usually been very expensive. With the advancement in flooring technology, creating complex patterns became cheaper. Moreover, engineered flooring has been known to deliver excellent structural stability.

When you are looking to place wood flooring in the basement, the kitchen or areas with fluctuating temperature levels such as a conservatory, engineered herringbone flooring is an ideal choice. Why? Because these floors won’t warp or change shape in the presence of moisture and humidity. You can even fit these floors in rooms that are exposed to direct sunlight. And yes, they work well with underfloor heating systems too.

In all, engineered herringbone floors bring the best of both worlds – the visual appeal of hardwood and the practical benefits of engineered flooring. The core is made of several layers of plywood with a solid hardwood veneer on top. Once installed, they look just like hardwood floors. What’s more, they are very easy on the pocket too.

And there’s no dearth of options when it comes to design, thickness, finish and colours.
